Guardian Home
Here is where you can apply to become a guardian home for a future candidate. When we have one available we will reach out to you
What is a Guardian Home?
At DayDreamDoodles we believe every dog deserves a loving, forever home. To support our breeding program while ensuring our dogs live happy, fulfilled lives, we offer a Guardian Home Program.
A Guardian Home is a special arrangement where a qualified family provides a permanent, loving home for one of our breeding dogs. As a Guardian, you will receive a healthy, beautiful dog at no cost while we retain full breeding rights. After the dog's breeding career is complete, full ownership is signed over to you for the remainder of their life.
Guardian Home Responsibilities
As a Guardian, you are responsible for:
-
Regular vet care and vaccinations
-
Routine grooming and exercise
-
A healthy diet and wellness care
-
Basic obedience training
-
Clear communication with us, especially regarding the female's heat cycles or male’s availability for breeding
We are responsible for all costs associated with breeding, including health testing, breeding-related travel, whelping (for females), and any pregnancy-related medical expenses.
Female Guardians
-
Heat Cycles: Females typically come into heat every six months, starting around one year of age (this can vary).
-
Breeding: We usually breed females starting with their second or third heat, around two years old.
-
Communication: It is essential you inform us immediately when your dog comes into heat (signs include swelling, bleeding, and excessive licking).
-
Breeding Process: When a female comes into heat, we will begin progesterone testing to monitor her fertility,. Testing is typically prefromed every other day for one to 2 weeks until her progesterone levels indicate she is ready for breeding. Once the female’s progesterone levels indicate readiness, we will coordinate breeding visits. She will be bred twice- usually every other day during her fertile window.
-
Pregnancy: Females pregnancies last about 63 days. Around day 33, an ultrasound will confirm pregnancy, and an x-ray will be performed around day 56.
-
Whelping: Your dog will come to our home approximately five days before her due date and stay with us for about seven weeks until the puppies are weaned. You are welcome to visit anytime!
-
Retirement: She will retire by age 5, be spayed at our expense, and be fully yours.
Guardian families receive compensation for each successful litter their female produces.
Important: While rare, pregnancy does carry risks such as emergency C-sections or other complications. Guardians must understand and accept these possibilities.
Male Guardians
-
Maturity: Males may begin breeding as early as 10 months old, depending on individual development.
-
Breeding Schedule: Males may be needed few times a month, depending on demand.
-
Transportation: You must either bring him to breeding appointments or allow us to pick him up as needed.
-
Retirement: Males typically retire around 6 years old, after which we will cover neutering costs and sign full ownership over to you.
Guardian families are compensated for each successful breeding their male participates in.
Being a Guardian Home is a rewarding opportunity to be part of a responsible, loving breeding program while giving a wonderful dog a permanent family from the start.
